No corn for the cob.....
Our fields of maize are being harvested at the moment, but not for corn on the cob. Instead it’s being chopped up for use as biomass in order to produce biofuel. Government statistics show that in 2016, 52,280 hectares of maize was being grown for use in anaerobic digesters, roughly 29% of all maize being grown, and 1% of the total arable land.
1 tonne of corn = 418 litres of bioethanol
1 tonne oilseed rape = 428 litres of bioethanol
Diesel fuel can contain up to 7% bioethanol, and petrol up to 10 % (although it needs to be advertised as such) .And both can legally be sold in retail outlets uin the UK.
