Those who leave and those who stay

I first learnt of Elena Ferrante's work in conversation with ArcLight. I'm so glad that she mentioned the Neopolitan novels to me. They are superb. I concur with the critic who has described them 'angry Jane Austen', and another who has made favourable comparisons with Balzac.

I finished the third volume today, lying on the sofa, tea and chocolate within arm's reach. I hope to borrow the fourth and final volume from the public library in the next couple of days, having ordered it online this afternoon.
