Ely - Eel Isle

Jubilee Gardens beside the river in Ely includes this modern sculpture of a river Eel. Ely got its name from 'Eel Isle' in the time when the Fens were swamp with small 'Islands' of slightly higher ground on which the villages were built, Eels were an important source of food and income.
We had a Blipmeet here today - you can see how lovely the weather was in the morning - clouded over in the afternoon. More pics on Blipfoto Friends Facebook page.
