Autumn colours
I decided to cut back the hosta today because it was looking raggedy. I really liked the autumn colours in the leaves though and decided to blip them. Cleaning up in the garden a bit at a time, and it's great to be working outside on such a beautiful autumn day.
A car drove up as I was trimming some leaves off a zucchini plant (2 more small zucchini coming - unbelievable!). It was our neighbour wondering if our phone and internet were working. No problems here, but nothing was working at his house, not far up the road. He called the phone company, finally got a person, and was told that no one was available to come to check things until Wednesday. Not happy! He left with a bag of tomatoes though. A few minutes later, he phoned me, and everything was working again. No idea why!
Extras: There's one last cucumber still growing and I'm hopeful that it will grow a bit more with the warm weather this week. I bought some cukes a few days ago because ours were finished and I had no idea that this one would still grow. Ours have been so much better than store bought - but then anything homegrown always tastes better. Last week I covered the tomato plants that still have a few on them with plastic because it was so wet and cold at night. One plant still has quite a few.
Terrible news out of Las Vegas this morning. A young man from BC was among the dead. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy and all the others that are affected by the awful events going on around the world. We've started watched the series on Vietnam by Ken Burns. We recorded it but have been avoiding it because that war had such an effect on us. We protested it, had friends who were draft dodgers or conscientious objectors and moved up north where we lived, and one friend who was a medic. Like all wars, the Vietnam war devastated so many lives. It's so emotional to watch the series but it's excellent, and we just stop it and cry when we need to.
