Conquering Kingda Ka
Today was the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational!
We got to the school at 7:15 to be picked up by the bus at 7:30. Unfortunately, the bus didn't show up until 8:15. Once we all got on the bus, the driver went into the school to go to the bathroom. In his absence, the parking brake failed and the bus began to roll away. Luckily, Frazer jumped out of her seat and stepped on the brake pedal to stop us from running into the school. Once on the road, we made great time to the park. The girls' Varsity team had only a short time to warm up and get to the line, but they still managed to race very well. The boys' Varsity race was at 11:35, so we had more time to get ready. The course was considerably drier than last year, and we all improved by quite a bit. I ran a PR of 17:45, but I won't let myself get too excited about it until I run that at Bethpage. After the races ended, we all got cleaned up on the bus and headed to the park.
There were a few ticket issues, but we all made it into the park relatively quickly. I headed to the Green Lantern with Shannon, Michelle, Christina, Megan, Chris, Nikki, and Marissa. Chris chickened out, but that's his loss. We went on Rolling Thunder after that, and on the way to Bizzaro, I spotted that they had just re-opened Kingda Ka, so we ran across the park and got on line. Lucky for us, we got there quickly, and only had to wait about 30 minutes. I sat front row with Shannon, and it was our first time ever on that ride. It was amazing. We went on Bizzaro after that, and then had Mexican food for dinner. My last ride of the night was Nitro, which is how I ended this trip last year. Tonight was Fright Fest, so as we were gathering to leave the park, employees dressed up like zombies and vampires were walking around scaring everyone. It was really creepy. Five of the freshmen boys left the park a half hour early because they thought we were meeting back at the bus, but we found them eventually and we all made it back home in one piece.
I love this team with all of my heart.
