A morning by the Thames
Glenys is fortunate to live only a short walk from the Thames. Three out of the four of us were content to walk; one was keen to experience the thrill of a 'Boris' bike. We had sort of planned to get a bike each yesterday, but just ran out of day! For those who don't know (I didn't) there are rows of bikes for hire, dotted about the city. For a reasonable cost, you hire it in one place, then park it back up somewhere else, once it has got you from a to b.
So after a leisurely breakfast, Helen joined us, and we had an hour's walk down by the river. Looking across to Battersea, I was told. A police helicopter took off from a helipad, nestled between lavish riverside apartments, no doubt owned by the very rich, and possibly famous. It is that kind of area.
At 11.30 we said good bye to Karen, and Helen and I left just after 12. We already had a tentative date in the diary for a February meeting; it is so important to stay in contact with friends, so we all try really hard to make it happen.
My bus to Victoria was slow. An entourage of big black cars with a huge police escort stopped all the traffic. I wonder who it was, definitely someone important!
I had about an hour before my slow coach to Norwich arrived, but once on, and moving I felt quite travel sick and had to try and sleep without my head falling on the bloke next to me. Eventually we arrived in Norwich at about 5.40 and Jon was waiting for me.
Home now, and it is lovely. I love London for visits, and the country for living in. So I'm happy to be back in my quiet little country home.
After dinner, Jon and I walked to the allotment to move the chickens a bit. It was pitch dark, but not cold. All moved, fed and watered, they should be happy with free grass for a few more days.
Now an hour of tv, before bed and a brand new week. It has been a lovely weekend with some of the nicest people, friends made when we were all dropped at Chester college, alone and a bit scared, 33 years ago. Really lovely. Thank you girls x.
