Wheal Prosper

A grand trip out.... I made it all of 25metres from the back seat of the van before I was shattered!

Rinsey Cove and the pump house of the Wheal Prosper mine looked fabulous, but Mrs IttH didn't take pooch down to the beach as we were warned by other dog walkers that it was covered in hundreds of large jellyfish - something I'd have liked to see, but that pooch would quite possibly have attempted to eat.
In the care of the National Trust since 1969 the mine apparently never lived up to its name and only operated between 1860-1866. The main shafts was 600ft deep and it was that most terrifying of Cornish endeavours, a mine under the sea. I can think of little worse or a more treacherous place to toil.
The area is an SSSI as it marks several key geological borders - granite meeting slates, key tin and copper lode intersections, plus the benefit of nesting Kittiwakes - I think it's somewhere I'd enjoy returning to if I was able to explore.
