Port Macquarie, Australia

We were only staying in Port Macquarie 1 night so certainly made the most of it and had an amazing day! The manager of our backpackers had a chat with us and as we had our heart set on the Koala hospital suggested a scenic route to walk by the harbour. It was a good thing we did as it was beautiful and saw so many pelicans up close all waiting for some fish! We also passed a couple of nice beaches and then arrived at the Koala hospital. It was really great seeing Koalas but hearing their stories why they were there were hard to hear. Many of them were in the facility due to injuries - being knocked down by cars, bushfires etc. Many are ill (one had an amputated leg and eye taken out :( ) and are kept there until they can be released back into the wild, although some may never be. The people at the hospital do an amazing job - all on a voluntary basis, which was very heartwarming. In the evening our hostel took us for free in the mini bus to see some wild kangaroos. There were at least 20 and was amazing to see them in the wild.
We will be very sad to leave this beautiful little costal town tomorrow!
