Life in a Northern Town

Radcliffe Camera

I drove down to Oxford to meet up with two school friends for our biennial get together. I’ve never really visited the city before, even though both of the other two have lived here in the past. I enjoyed pottering around being all touristy and they loved their trips down memory lane.

There were quite a few graduations going on (now I know why it was so hard to get hotel rooms), which meant that many of the colleges were closed (apart from Christ Church with a big queue and a hefty admission fee) but we did manage to mooch around a couple. I’ll put a few extras in. A bit of local knowledge took us to a biscuit stall in the covered market, where I had quite simply the most divine chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever eaten. Plans have been made to return on Sunday to obtain provisions for the drive home. The main photo is the Radcliffe Camera, part of the Bodleian Library.

We had a lovely dinner, much reminiscing and struggling to remember names and dates, but we are all now bespectacled middle aged ladies so it’s a long way back to remember. They’ve both given in to the grey hair - maybe it’s time I did too.....

I’ll be back to Oxford with Sarah to visit the museums.
