The Last Act

A trip up to the Botanics for a stroll round Inverleith House - surely one of the loveliest places on a sunny day. Picked up the artwork from the Open Eye too, and later lifted the last of the tatties.
So, to the evening and an invite to PA’s farewell concert - at 6 Degrees North, the old Laughing Duck. When I joined the workplace in 84, he’d already been there five years, but he was never the most committed to a life in IT. He’d played in a couple of Edinburgh Bands in the 70s and 80s - ‘Hastily the Dog’ and ‘Fast Breeder’ and after chucking work in ‘87 he eked out a living in music - I remember him on the mixing desk at some event at the Ross Bandstand with Malcolm le Maistre. He kept in touch with some friends; his house burned down and he bought a sports car with the insurance money. Which he had for a week before he wrote it off. Rock ‘n’ Roll, indeed. Sadly he’s recently been given the news that he hasn’t been given long to live - so a group of his pals pressed him into playing a final gig. Although his voice was weak, his lead guitar was as good as ever - Wild Horses was particularly heartfelt. And then it was midnight and we were out on the street. Friday night, Saturday morning.
