Repaired a monitor this evening. Probably the fifth time I've seen this fault. Something corrosive leaks out of these capacitors, and it attacks the tin-plated steel pin of the positive lead. Eventually eating right through the pin. I suspect the bubbling brown gunge, is what results from the chemical reaction between the materials, and is possible accelerated by the presence of a high voltage across the capacitors terminals.
Still taking things easy. No outdoor adventures at lunchtime today, despite the weather being vastly improved on yesterday.
