Sleeping canal boats
Today we went for a splendid walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal starting at Gargrave and heading west as far as East Marton. From there we returned along the Pennine Way to Gargrave where the obligatory tea shop visit was at the Dalesman Café.
The canal was very quiet and a lot of the boats looked as though they were sleeping for the winter. This shot was taken about two miles or so from Gargrave.
Today's extra shows the unusual double arched bridge #161 at East Marton.
I thought it might have been raised in height at some time by the addition of a second bridge on top, but this is not so. The bottom arch is a strainer arch to support the unusually high abutments - see here.
