Port Mulgrave
We walked one of our favourite routes today from Staithes to Runswick Bay and I've chosen this view back towards Port Mulgrave for todays Blip because there was just a hint of sun at this point. Mostly the light has been rather flat, but at least it didn't rain. I was desperate for the loo by the time we got to Runswick Bay, only to find that the loos on the top in the car-park were closed, so we had to head down to the ones on the sea-front. What is it with Scarborough Council and their toilet facilities. The loos in the top carpark in Staithes close at 4.00pm. There must be many people who, having walked to the top of the cliff to get back to their car, must need the loo when they get there. Are you supposed to drive down to the bottom again (for those who don't know the area there's restricted access to the harbour area in Staithes). The council is quite happy to take our car-parking money, so what wrong with making reasonable provision for visitors! I need to send this rant to Scarborough Council!
When we set off on our walk we discovered the mobile Post Office van outside the Information shop and as we've been hearing a lot about this van over the last few days I thought it was worth including as an extra. As quite a few locals post offices have closed down in rural locations the Post Office is now offering this mobile service, which usually visits for two half days. Not quite like having your post office available all week, but I guess, better than nothing. Unfortunately the banking side of things wouldn't work when we tried it out because the van couldn't get an internet signal (sounds familiar)!
p.s. I forgot to add that we counted 13 Red Admirals today as we passed an allotment plot. Most were on the ivy flowers on the edge of the plot but there were also a few sunbathing on some abandoned potatoes in the garden itself. I think this is the most I've ever seen together.
