Day #5
A day in the mountains and probably covering over 300km on fairly steep and winding roads.
We visited Platres first; a small hill village and a favourite of our friends. Much was closed when we arrived but gradually tavernas opened and the village came to life. We sat and watched while our frappé stop rolled into lunch. A beautifully quiet and peaceful morning.
More driving round more bends to these falls, The Kaledonia Falls, a place of natural beauty and perfect for a country walk. The walk was steep and very rocky and traversed the riverbed in places with wooden bridges. My photo was taken fairly near the beginning of the climb. We made it to the top chuffed and only slightly puffed. Then all the way down again....A brilliant experience!
Onto Troodos where we stopped briefly, it being mainly a skiing resort now it seemed and with plenty of restaurants around a square. Time for a hot drink as the temperatures were definitely cooler up there.
The drive home was interesting..back down and round...and round...on the very good highways to Limassol stopping to look at Govenors Beach as suggested, then Larnaca and Tersefanou. Safely down from.the mountains as dusk fell. Another good day!
I have mosquito bites....grr! Par for the course for me! I have all creams with me. They'll go...eventually
