At last

Some will know that I am no friend of maize. It's bad for the environment, monoculture killing insects and bees, fed to turbo cows and put in to so called renewable energy bio-gas units where the energy balance is more than questionable when you start adding fertiliser.

Always nice to "get back" our countryside when the stuff is gone. Bad news for the wild boar who like to live in the fields though. Luckily directly around our property there isn't any.

However given the farmers and the energy producers have sown the stuff and it has to be harvested, I do enjoy watching them manoeuvrer around the fields, many in our area very small, with their huge machines. Very skilled.

I am not absolutely sure but think the equipment is from a local contractor "Ernteprofi Allgaeu" - certainly most of the tractor/trailer combinations seemed to have the odd signage but the John Deere 8300 self propelled forage harvester looked to be brand new and may have been a demonstrator. The company normally has Claas Jaquars.

Spoke briefly with one of the tractor drivers while he was waiting and should have asked him.

A lovely day again.
