We went on a day trip to Augsburg, free imperial city until 1806 and city of the Fuggers, in the 16th and 17th century investors and financiers to nobility and clergy. Some branches of the Fuggers and some of their old immense richness survived until today. And the traces of this old Renaissance family are still visible today, above all with the Fuggerei, a settlement of small houses for poorer people. If a person is without financial means, they can still today apply for a flat in there. Amongst other things they have to be Catholic and willing to pray three Ave Marias. The rent is 88 cents per year.
