'Pugsley Buzzard'

Quite a layed back day around the house today, although we did manage to pop up to our local St. Andrews Hotel thisafternoon for some toe tappin' funky boogaloo piano playing from the vaudevillian Pugsley Buzzard.

I've been listening to his music for a few years now, but never had the opportunity to see him play live. What an experience, his fingers move around the keyboard faster than my eyes could follow and he has a huge gravelly voice in a similar vein to Tom Waits.

I had a chat to him after he'd finished one of his sets and he's now living in Victoria, so I hope to catch some more of his shows in future. He was raised in Canada and spent a lot of time travelling the world playing all sorts of venues and festivals and would feel particularly at home in New Orleans I'd say. He said he's starting a tour across the USA in November which will take him from LA all the way to New Orleans down south.
