Searchlight (Day 870)

There was a bit of a slow start this morning, but the hill was still deserted as I took the woofers for their morning wander.
Back at home, and after a few domestic chores, I spent the morning in the garage tinkering with my beautiful wife's motorbike whilst she went off to do some hossing.
After lunch, we headed east to Rerwick Head where we wandered around on the clifftops and in amongst the derelict coastal defences left over from WWII. Orkney was strategically very important in both of the wars, and many of the buildings are still dotted around. Today's blip is looking out from a searchlight position which would light up a target for one of the two guns at the site to fire on. On a nice day like today, it is a fine place to be, but I imagine in a gale in the middle of winter it would have been fairly horrible. One of the buildings is dug into the ground and is at least chest deep in water. Hopefully the drainage was more effective when it was in use.
The dogs thoroughly enjoyed chasing around looking for small furry things to chase and murder (they were unsuccessful today) and getting generally filthy.
We had a stop at Tesco on the way home to pick up supplies and we are both looking forward to an evening chilling out on the couch.
