Every year CICS, a charity organisation we're members of and who Mrs B helps co-ordinate, holds a weekend gathering at Alton Towers. For any of you who've ever wondered, we're the ones who get to jump the queue and get in the out door. We deserve it.

Families from all over the UK come - there's probably a couple of hundred of us here this weekend - and indulge in some themepark madness followed by an evening buffet and disco.

It is one of a few small opportunities for Tom to be surrounded by other kids with implants. As he becomes increasingly self aware it seems a wonderful release for him to be able to talk about it without any hint of reticence. As he continues to thrive surrounded by 'normal' kids it remains a relief not to be different, even for a little while.

For us it is also a release - not having to explain anything and to meet up with people on the same journey.

Good times.
