Postbridge - A Tale of Two Bridges
We picked up Colin and went to a Macmillan Coffee Morning in Dawlish. After tea and yummy home-made cakes and scones we left to go on safari across the wilds of Dartmoor. Well it wasn't really a safari but a very enjoyable road trip with stops for sightseeing along the way. One stop was at the hamlet of Postbridge home to two bridges, The Clapper Bridge which dates from the 13th century and the more recent road bridge which was built in the 1780s. Both are Grade II listed.
When we arrived the ancient bridge could not be seen as it was swarming with young adults on a school trip. Luckily the teacher shepherded them back to their coach leaving the bridge comparatively free to get a decent pic or two.
On the road, after a quick pit stop to have a gawk at Dartmoor Prison and a more leisurely stop in the empty space of Dartmoor, we ended up in Tavistock. A very acceptable curry and a pint proceeded our drive home, this time the quicker way as it was dark.
