Still Life With Spines

I hadn't bought any music, books or DVDs since June, but when I got back from the Cotswolds on the 19th, I found the postman had left enough stuff for me to splurge on for quite some time, presented here Mojo Filter style.

The Original Album Series is an excellent concept whereby a number of albums, usually five, are presented in the facsimile cardboard sleeve of the original vinyl album, scaled down to CD size. They are no-frills, having no inner sleeve or booklets, and usually no bonus tracks, but are very cheaply priced at around a tenner, and generally in their most recently remastered incarnation. Sometimes the albums have not been widely available on CD for some time, if at all. I had spent a small fortune a few years back on two long deleted Tim Buckley albums, but now both are available in one of these packs along with three early classic albums priced at next to nothing. I have a few of these five disc sets now and have blipped one before. The three sets depicted here were ordered prior to their new release in this format. I used to see the Incredibles quite often in the late sixties, and had seen Booker T and the MGs as a teenager on the Hit The Road Stax tour, where they played their own set and also backed up Sam and Dave, Otis and others. Sadly, I have never seen the JAMC live, though have had a close acquaintance with their music.

The Rough Trade Counter Culture 2CD rounded up some of the singles they had put out during 2011, including a few favourites, and came in a pack that included the two free CDs featuring artists that had appeared in the Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons in the last couple of years.

The Green Wing box contains both series, the one-off special and a bonus disc of out-takes, as well as lots of extras, all at such a new ridiculously low price it would be rude not to own it, and the book was acquired under the advice of Woodpeckers. The front cover has John Peel saying, "Read this book" and I wouldn't care to disobey.

Now to find time to consume them all.
