Wave
I took my Mum to see The Wave on Plymouth Hoe. We saw it in sunlight, at dusk and at night - I really struggled to pick a Blip because it is undoubtedly more impressive at night but I think the daytime shots give it more context. In the end I plumped for this one, despite the irritating yellow light (which I'll edit out when I get home!) because of the bronze placques, each of which is inscribed with the names of fallen sailors.
I saw the installation at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, where I thought it was far too pretty in the bucolic surroundings to have an impact. But here on Plymouth Hoe it was very moving.
I have added various extras, including one for real context, it's my Mum tracing her father's name on the memorial.
If I may have a short rant.....there were people taking selfies of themselves in front of the poppies, grinning, jumping up and down, posing seductively. I don't agree with enforced grieving but a shred of awareness and respect would be good. Also, there were lots of people taking photos, myself included of course, and almost everyone was respectful, polite and patient. One bloke however, was hurling abuse at people who strayed in front of his tripod. Both he and the selfie folk give photography a bad name.
Rant over.
Apart from this, I spent the afternoon fixing messed up laptops ("we've lost Google"), phones and car radios. I expect they'll all be "messed up" again by tomorrow.
