A Favorite Memory

Franklin J. Cirrincione

          My Dad

I have many fond memories of my dad.  He was determined his four children had the best possible education because he dropped out in 8th grade. Three of us finished college. I became a teacher, Andy worked with the stock market, John is the CEO of a casino and Frank became an expert craftsman with his own business. He would be proud.

There is one memory that comes immediately to mind. We'd get Reader's Digest  magazine every month.  There was a section called "Increase Your Word Power." it consisted of a list of challenging words and multiple choices for their meanings. He would quiz my brother (who was less than a year younger) and me on every word until we mastered them.  I loved it -  spending time with him and competing with Andy.
I'm not sure a day goes by that I don't think of him.

The photo was taken at our house in San Dimas, California in 1955.  Interestingly, it was located on Historic Route 66.  I was one year old, he was 22.  He was so handsome and I had that round-headed, hair curl Charlie Brown look. Our young family moved back to my parents' native Buffalo, New York two years and 2-1/2 kids later.

Btw, anyone know if Reader's Digest  still exists?
