Opening the New
An incredible day today. Today we had the amazing opportunity to watch the world premiere of Taking Flight, the piece created for 100 Hull dancers by The Royal Ballet which they performered outside. 20 dancers from her old school were in it and lots from other schools she knows. A big group of her old classmates from the old school were there. Katie coped really well with seeing them, many of them for the first time since she left. She had a wonderful time catching up with some of them like it they'd never been apart. We watched the second performance with Bobbins and her mum.
After the dancing, we had a bit of tea in the town centre, trying to convince the kids not to run into the fountain. It was very soon time to head over to the Queens Gardens for the incredible evening. We had tickets to watch the live relay of the utterly stunning gala performance by the Royal Ballet to celebrate the opening of the Hull New Theatre. Gary Avis hosted our evening, the dancing was incredible, the weather stayed dry and reasonably mild, the wine was flowing. It was a gorgeous, brilliant and extremely memorable evening. Xander parish danced a fabulous comic piece. Steven McRae and his hull born wife Elizabeth Harrod danced a stunning duet. Steven did a stunning tap solo with a fabulous violinist.... it was fantastic. Katie's old school danced a piece in the show. I was very proud of her for how delighted she was for them, how she cheered them and smiled. She'd have been in the performance so it was hard in some ways but she did herself so proud. We didn't know it but the Royal had arranged for the streaming to be put on a half hour delay. They did this to enable them to bus the entire cast from the theatre to the gardens for a curtain call. What a night.
