A view from the top
Today is a special day in France called ‘journée du Patrimoine’. It is the only day on the French calendar (as far as I am aware) when entry to museums and monuments is free, and in some cases where entry to certain places is even possible.
On my way to the old people’s home this evening, I noticed some people on the turret of the castle in Gisors. I have lived here for nearly 18 years now and this was the first time I have ever seen people up there. I naturally assumed it was because of the special day, so not wishing to miss out on the event, and in order to get a unique photo for today’s blip, I parked the car and climbed the many steps to the top. The view was well worth the effort, despite the pouring rain, and having taken a few shots with my telephone (once again, camera not on hand!), I made my way back down the steps and out of the castle only to be told by a friendly guide that in fact this area of the castle, including the dungeons, is open to the public every day until the end of November, so not such a unique photo after all, and had I have known, I would have returned another day with perhaps some blue sky and sunshine rather than a dark sky and rain. However, having made the effort, I am determined to use my photo just the same as my entry for today. For those of you who live in this area (and I know of at least 1) then this is surely a visit to be put on the list next time you go to the hypermarket! The guided tour is at 2.30pm and takes an hour. More specific information is available from the tourist office.
Having returned to the car I continued my journey to the old people’s residence to visit our friend as promised. Once again she was very pleased to see us, but unfortunately her hearing aids were in the shop for repair and as a direct result, Anne and I left her with sore throats (I’ll leave you to work that one out!). We will be collecting her hearing aids from the shop on Tuesday prior to our next visit.
Well having now arrived home and completed my blip entry for today, it’s time to get the dinner on before preparing a meeting I have on Tuesday evening…………………it’s all go, especially when you are retired!
Thank you all once again for your continued following and lovely comments. Have a nice day/evening and take care of yourselves.
