I think this is a Buff tailed Bumblebee.
It is certainly getting deep into this perennial Sow Thistle.

Took this as I acted as sheep dog for the 20 people who had signed up for Mrs. K's wild flower walk, one of the 18 walks on our Story of Silverdale weekend.

Not the best time of year for such a walk but it is surprising what you can still find.

The whole event is a great success and the six half hour lectures today have had audiences of 100.
