Hunting for art supplies lead me here
I needed to buy some clear cellophane covers for some cards I've made. Helena is selling them on her stall but we'd run out of them this morning. I hunted about in a few shops and then remembered there was an art supplies business at Griffin Mill, a short drive along the Golden Valley.
Once I'd climbed up to the second floor I found a huge array of fascinating artists' tools and just wanted to browse. Unfortunately Helena was waiting so I asked for help and was told they don't have them. But I shall return there. The last time I came to this building was to be the subject for a local photographer who specialises in black and white portraits and he wanted to practise using a digital camera for the first time! That shows you how long ago it was.
On my way out I climbed up the bank to the road to get this view of the warehouse and a bit of Griffin Mill in the background. That is a building I've visited more often as there is a good specialist paint shop (for the building industry) run by a local family. The buildings aren't very old, dating from the early 20th century and are obviously built of brick rather than the local Cotswold limestone like the older mill related buildings. That was a result of the cheapness of bricks being delivered from outside the area along the adjacent canal. The canal stopped being used commercially by the 1930s, although it is being gradually renovated.
I did find some of the clear bags I needed but hey were in a shop only fifty yards from where Helena was in the town centre. She had suggested trying there, but I had stupidly left it till last!
