Here comes the light
Firstly a big thank you for all the appreciation shown to Wednesdays red squirrel and yesterday's favourite tree.
Out with returning clients today, they'd driven from Bristol, hoping for some late summer magic. The forecast wasn't in their favour, 70% chance of rain and below zero wind chill on the summit, oh well....
Arriving at Ullswater early I stopped to finish my coffee and wandered down to the shore at Dobbin Wood. The light, the sky, the oh so slight breeze - all seemed to herald a day too good to hope for. Spirits lifted I savoured my quiet time, then headed off to Patterdale hoping the best of the day wasn't already gone.
A circuit of Helvellyn's edges via Grizedale and Glenridding was always going to offer some wonderful blipping opportunities (& indeed it did) but really I was hoping I'd caught a little of that early morning magic, that I could do it any semblance of justice.
We managed to have lunch with views, cross the difficulties in both good time and conditions, yes there was ample opportunity to be grateful for a hat but the temperature was really just about right given our level of exertion. Best of all we laughed all day.
The rain held off until we sat down in the cafe in Glenridding, it doesn't get much better than that.

Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.
