Charlotte Sometimes

Betsy wasn't well enough for school today, and feeling a bit under the weather myself, I decided to join her for a duvet day.

I spent a lot of it re-reading Charlotte Sometimes - a childhood favourite. My original copy is long gone but this edition which I picked up in a charity shop has the same illustrations as my old copy, they are beautiful and I really loved them. This one was always my favourite.

The book is about identity, what makes us who we are and how our experiences shape us. I have since read that the writer, Penelope Farmer, is a twin, and so can imagine she would be interested in exploring individuality and identity. My father was a twin.

Robert Smith of The Cure was obsessed by the book from the age of about 12 and wrote a brilliant song of the same name and inspired by the story, using huge chunks of the text.

Tomorrow will be my 365, I suddenly realise. I will be taking Betsy to softball, the subject of my second ever blip. Today was the McMillan coffee morning thing, the subject of my first.

ETA: Today not tomorrow is my 365! My Maths isn't up to realising that 364+1 is 365. How funny .... I knew I wasn't going to be up to one I those clever 365 blips, but I did think I might be up to getting the right day!
