Spectacle

The highlight of today's 12km Ramblers walk in the Strathaven area was the Spectacle E'e Falls, situated by a nearby mill on Kype Water.

The story goes that a local lad fell in love with the miller's daughter. The miller disapproved and ended the relationship. The lad took revenge by placing an eye glass (a spectacle e'e) in the mill's thatched roof, causing it to catch fire when caught by the sun's rays and the mill to be burned to the ground.

Whether or not there is any truth in the story, we had a good walk and the falls were really quite spectacular.
