Founded in 1246 by the Earl of Cornwall the younger brother of Henry 111 it was to thank god after he survived a shipwreck,
it belonged to the order of Cistercian Monks and was disestablished on Christmas Eve 1539.

Sadly this is all that remains owned now by the National Trust but managed by English Heritage.
