A is for Anger (MM190)

sk's theme for this week's mono Monday is a favourite poem.  Mine is Beasley Street by John Cooper Clarke. It is about a harsh wrong side of the tracks street and the sense of anger and abandonment many felt in the late 70s early 80s.    

I remember seeing him on stage in Coventry supporting Elvis Costello and thinking how he has thousands of young people listening to a poetry reading, and ... how lucky I was to have had better opportunities in life than many of my generation.

There is little to illustrate that lifestyle where I live now,  so this is a quick 'still life' from our broken bird bath and a few pieces of rusty steel Gill pulled out of the garden.  I don't suppose anyone living on Beasley St had a bird bath!

The boys are on the wagon
The girls are on the shelf
Their common problem is
That they're not someone else
The dirt blows out
The dust blows in
You can't keep it neat
It's a fully furnished dustbin
Sixteen Beasley Street
