New sanctuary
Monday
I was quite proud of myself this morning as I got out to the gym before going to church for ladies fellowhip. It was our first meeting since the summer break and it was good to get back together again. Our books hadn't come in yet, so we just talked and shared - we had several people new to the group and a few more returning after an absence, so we went round the table introducing ourselves and telling a bit about ourselves.
Back in February, I blipped our new sanctuary under construction. As you can see, the outside is now complete, and this coming Sunday we get to "take a peek" inside. They are aiming to have the first service in there on December 16th. As well as the new sanctuary, changes have been made in our existing space. The youth used to meet for Sunday School and their Sunday evening activities in an old building across the road which belonged to the church. However, there have been increasing issues with that building due to its age, so the decision was made to sell the land, and make room for the youth in the existing building. So the basement, which was where the bell choir and chancel choir rehearsal rooms, the music directors office and a classroom were located, has been converted into a new youth space. They have knocked a number of walls down and created a large space, with a kitchen/eating area, as well as a large classroom. When the new sanctuary is open, the old sanctuary will become the fellowship hall, and the old fellowship area will be converted into the choir rooms. So in the meantime the choirs are without an area to practice. The choir just practices in the sanctuary - that's no problem, but its a nuisance for the handbells, as it means every practice we have to get the tables out, set up and put all the bells out, then put them all away again at the end - rather a hassle, and obviously cuts into our actual playing time.
