Dovecote, Haddington

I blipped a photo of the outside of this building last week. Today is Heritage Day and it is possible to go inside.

The photo shows one of the walls, full of roost holes for the doves, they are more noticeable lower down the photo.

The dovecote is thought to have been built around 1420, the year not the time, and would have held around 500 birds. It is known that it was still in use in 1850.

The extra shows roof detail. Unfortunately, there are no drawings or paintings of the original roof so the current roof is based on a later design to keep the building water tight.
