Coppermines

Another Lake District NP walk leader training walk today. The walk was a 6 mile tour of the Coniston Coppermines valley. As we headed up towards the youth hostel a small squall passed by during a period of sunshine and a very low rainbow appeared over the youth hostel. The walk continued up to Levers Water where we had an interesting wade across the dam at the outlet from the reservoir. Rather than the usual 1 inch of water over the dam the recent rains meant there were 5 inches of water. The walk then passed through Boulder Valley before returning to Coniston. Lots of interest on the walk with old copper mining heritage, glacial features and superb views all the way. The weather for once was kind to us.
