The eye of the tiger
All the gardening books warn against taking pity on plants on the "for sale" shelf but I frequently ignore that advice. More often than not it very quickly becomes apparent why the poor plant was on sale as it sinks into a depression and then expires. This rose was a bundle of spindly stems with a few blackspot covered leaves hanging off them and no sign of any flowerbuds, but it was exotically named "Tiger's eye" and it was only 70p, so I took it home, put it in a pot with some fresh compost, left it in a sunny spot on the patio and forgot about it. Over the rainy/sunny summer a fresh crop of healthy looking leaves appeared and this week it flowered - and what a zinger of a flower it is! Well done Mother Nature :-))
