something about science
Granta Park was officially opened on 21st September 1999. I've worked at the park on two occasions and never really explored beyond the round trip to the on-site Cafe or the Nursery.
The Park was developed to be a new Science Park for the Cambridge area providing a purpose-built location for the biotech and technology industries. It was designed to be of high quality, low density, fully landscaped with easy access. The Cricket pitch was developed as one of the best in the country and in 2007 the Natural Heritage Award for 'Use of Landscaping to integrate New Development in to Rural Landscapes' was awarded.
Now, I don't know who designed this sculpture but it sits next to an usual plaque marking the official opening and overlooking the lake. I've walked past it a few times and never looked at it with much interest - I suppose the burden of work activities have always filled my mind. Today, however, with camera in hand, I was looking around with fresh eyes. I even discovered a very quaint little wood that is asking to be explored in more depth. Just right for a quick lunchtime meander. More blips on this subject will surely follow, and maybe I'll find out who designed this odd sculpture.
