China Bound

The coal in this train could be China bound. Approximately 75% of our mined coal is sold overseas.Might be great for the Aussie economy however our farming and dairy properties are dwindling and turning into holes in the ground with big man made mounds alongside. And of course nearby towns suffer dust problems. A large percentage of the mine workers are drive in drive out so the local towns are not benefitting from high earning pit workers.

The train I photographed is a normal length train of up to 100 carriages. You will note that their are three engines pulling the carriages. They are regularly passing through Muswellbrook from Ulan (near Mudgee) and Gunnedah on their way to Newcastle where Tankers await to take overseas.

I have thought of doing a project titled Rape of our Country which would be based around mining
