Chough-ed

Cornwall has many hidden gems. Not because no-one knows about them, but because they can't bloody well see them over the 17 foot hedges that line every single road.

The best way to actually see things is to hit the coast, and so it was to the Lizard. Oh but Cornwall is busy... Granted Kynance Cove is a favourite spot, but there were people everywhere, despite it being the end of the high season. The walk to Lizard Point was punctuated by numerous groups of folk, but lunch (Cornish pasty, of course) was followed by continuing east onto a much quieter part of the path. Ah, bliss. Finally.

I think we'll search out relatively quieter places for the rest of the trip. We'll not reach Scottish Isles detachment, but we can aim....

Anyway, this shot wasn't anywhere near the best of the day, but one thing I really, really wanted to see on this holiday was Choughs.. Little corvids with red bills and feet. The best place is apparently the Lizard peninsula. And....

We only saw these two, but it appears there are only 40 pairs or so in the area, so actually two was a pretty good score. And given we'll probably not be back to that particular area, in order to avoid the crowds, it's all a bit of a win.

So that's why you get a rubbish shot to note the day.
