Fission trip
Every one of Andrew Thomas's Hidden in Plains Sight books on Amazon has been a fascinating explanation of the universe. Book 8 is and seems pretty topical - how to make a nuclear bomb.
Uranium was formed by the immense temperatures and pressures of exploding stars. What happens when you fire a neutron into a uranium 235 atom is to unlatch the energy that has been stored there for 6 billion years. The strong nuclear force is overcome and the proton mass splits at a twentieth of the speed of light whilst releasing 3 more neutrons to carry on the chain reaction - if you have at least 52kgs of uranium 235 that is.
He hasn't mentioned hydrogen yet but I'm hoping he talks about that before the end of the book. Not that I want to make one.
