Summer bolete

The weather went off in a big way: the afternoon tailing off into a dull, drizzly evening.  It's a nice thing about mushrooming that it gives wet weather a silver lining and after a slow couple of weeks the resumption of rain will bring another flush.

This is the reticulated stem of Boletus reticulatus or Summer Bolete. These are decidedly uncommon in northern England. Further distinguishing features from normal Ceps are the lack of a white rim and the rough, dry texture of the cap.

This one was growing under beech -which is usually the place to find them.
