"Ab Ira Leonis"

"Fear the anger of the lion". This is the Latin motto of the City of Arles. In the past, the Kingdom of Arles was an ally of Venice. The Doges gave Arles the emblem of the lion to express their gratitude. This is how it also became part of the City of Arles history.
The sun rises above the Rhône River. This used to be one of the pillars of a bridge that was destroyed during WWII. It stands near the foundation of another bridge built by the Romans when Arelate was the Roman capital of the Gaul.
