Evacuees
My mum, like millions of others, was evacuated in the 2nd WW. In her case on 3 occasions to different families in different parts of the country. She is a member of the 'British evacuees association' who raised money for a statue that was put up last month at the 'National Arboretum' in Staffordshire. We took her there today to see it and main photo is her wearing a label with her name and where she went to, as is common practise for the evacuees at events. The extra shows more detail of the delightful statue called 'every which way' as it shows children in a state of confusion and disarray. The sculptor, Maurice Blik, was himself a 'holocaust' survivor who arrived in Britain at age 5yrs during the war. He happened to meet an evacuee on a train a few years ago and hearing about the plan for a memorial volunteered to make it.
Second extra is my dad at the 'National service memorial' .
