The sky was a bright blue as we walked through the Aberlady Nature Reserve and paddled in the shallow water beside the long sandy beach. There are few beaches with so little litter and in about a kilometre stretch of sand I noticed only two drink cans, two plastic bottles, two plastic net bags and one crisp packet. (No sign of the chair!) However huge bits of wood had been washed up and it must have taken several very strong people to construct this sculpture especially as one trunk must be about seven metres long. I doubt whether it will stand up to the spring tides next weekend.
(Extra) Apart from these, a noticeable bit of debris was the makeshift marker float which must have been carried across the Forth as it comes from a fishing boat based in Pittenweem about 22 km away (14 miles) It was quite simply but cleverly made using an old plastic bottle filled with something and a bamboo cane inserted through a shaped polystyrene with a bit of red material attached to the top. I suppose it would not be as great a loss as losing an expensive commercially produced marker.
As we were leaving to continue our walk and collect more juicy blackberries it started to cloud over and by the time we arrived home the sun had disappeared, but it was still warm. Again it felt like the summer which we had hardly seen this year.
