Meet the forest locals

Take a walk anywhere in the New Forest and you bet your life you’ll come across these locals, or their pals.
In fact there are something like 3,000 ponies roaming the Forest and while Canada Common and the adjoining Wellow and Plaitford Commons are not strictly in the depths of the New Forest, they do fall within the New Forest National Park.
The ponies wander freely about the open heath and grass land yet as friendly as they look, don’t make the mistake of feeding them titbits, or the left overs from your picnic..
In fact there are local byelaws which forbid the feeding of forest animals and falling for the charm of ponies like this and ignoring the rules about feeding them could land you with  a £200 fine and a criminal record!

It’s also worth having in mind that these animals are not tame — the gentlest looking pony can also kick and bite!
