Running Like Clockwork

There have now been three complaints from neighbours about the clock chiming the hour throughout the night. The clock had been stopped for 2 years while work was carried out on the tower and it only restarted just over a week ago.

 In deference to our neighbours we closed the sound control on Thursday night before practice and have left them closed. Today we went back to the tower and NM fitted a home made leather muffle made out of an old leather handbag bought in a charity shop. Big Wilf look out you may have competition.

It certainly has worked and hopefully our neighbour's sleep will no longer be disturbed.

This is a photo of our newly refurbished clock mechanism which is housed in a room between the belfry and the ringing room. The ropes from the bells run through this room into the ringing room below where the ringers are.
