Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Busy day!

This was the only photo I took today - while having a relaxing browse of the news over a coffee, with Archie on my lap, making it rather impossible. My wallpaper is of Archie after his first grown up haircut. How smart he looks. And how slim!

Chris the tiler arrived and did the next bit of plastering the wall, then went off, to return later in the day. JR and I both went to the gym, and afterwards, sitting in the sun, JR did some light gardening, and I took a strange notion to do some heavy gardening...

We had a sickly camellia bush growing beside a healthy one, and cramping its style. Ever since we moved here, almost four years ago, I've mentioned that I'd like to cut it out. This morning, JR agreed that it would be a good idea. And so I set to, sawing and chopping and digging and toiling. With lots of sit downs.

I hauled a couple of spare paving slabs from the other side of the garden, dug out the mound of dirt and weeds, and laid the pavers down to make a nice area for eg the ladder to get at the hedge or to paint the window. It took me all day, and boy! I deserved that beer at the end. Talking of beer, I'm on new pills, and the advice is 'Do not drink alcohol because it might heighten the effect...' well, that sounds like an endorsement if ever I heard one!

The other tradesman, a plumber, arrived this afternoon. Our shower has never drained away properly, and after using the bath today (never normally use it) we were reminded that the bath water gurgles up in the shower. He plunged and poked and swished and then poured sulphuric acid down the plug hole. There was certainly a LOT of gunk. Hopefully that's sorted it.

Janet arrived to take Archie a big walk up the Braids, and JR went too, while I manned the shop with tradesmen coming and going. But mainly, I sat outside, admiring my handwork in the garden, enjoying a beer, patiently waiting for the ’heightened effects'.

A LOT was accomplished today.
