Beside the Atlantic
Today was a big day in Oban - the official opening of the new pontoons. I'd completely forgotten it was happening until I happened to drive by and spotted the crowds, so stopped and had a listen in to the speeches.
As a treat the public were allowed to descend to the pontoons, so I walked right to the end and stood beside the Atlantic. OK, not quite, but beside the good ship Atlantic, which is a faithful 2010 reconstruction of the original schooner which was built in 1903 and finally broken up in 1982. She's absolutely amazing - 56 metres long and carrying 1750 square metres of sail. You can see more of her here.
