Adventures In Växjö!

Last night I arrived in Växjö to visit my friend Hollene - a friend from work who lives here. I'm staying 2 nights so today we had a full day of sightseeing around this beautiful city surrounded by lakes. We made a quick stop to see the ruins of the Kronobergs Castle, completed in 1590 but it fell into ruin in the 17th century. From there we went into the city to visit the Cathedral, the park around it, and the lake where we had fika in the sunshine. It was such a beautiful day.

This area of Sweden is known for its crystal, and the Cathedral is full of many crystal art pieces especially made for it. The most stunning is the alter, shown in the middle picture.

Next stop was to visit Teleborg Castle, built in 1900 as a wedding present from a Count to his wife. After their deaths 17 years later, it has been used as a hotel, wedding venue and conferences.

Once back home we were joined by Roger, Hollene's husband, and the three of us went out on their boat. We had a beautiful evening out on the water and even went by Kronobergs castle so I could see it again from the water. It was just about a perfect evening - until we ran out of fuel in the middle of the lake! Thankfully we had packed a small feast so we knew we wouldn't starve! And the sunset was lovely, which always makes me happy! A friend was called and after awhile our rescue boat arrived with extra fuel. It was all a great adventure! Thanks, Hollene and Roger! Looking forward to the next one!
