Common darter

Definitely female - after I captured the one shot, at almost maximum zoom on my camera, she went off and started dipping her tail in the water - presumably ovipositing.

There were a few other dragonflies around, but none of them were so obliging in posing for me.

I also rather liked the seed head that I've posted in extras.  Not sure what plant it belongs to.
